JOB SUMMARY:
The Partnerships in Child Care division of Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge provides information, support, and assistance to child care teachers and Directors to improve the quality of their early childhood instruction and thus positive learning outcomes for children.  The Child Care Technical Specialist provides this array of support and guidance to early care and education programs through on-site technical assistance.
 
 
JOB DUTIES:
The Technical Assistant Specialist’s Job Duties may include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of goals and objectives established by the division
  • Schedule and conduct visits to early learning centers (particularly those participating in the Early Childhood Care and Education Community Networks) and family child care home providers to work with providers to implement best practices, implement strategies to promote sustained change, and support self-directed improvement
  • Provide targeted technical assistance to child care centers and family child care home providers according to guidelines established by the program and the Louisiana Department of Education
  • Provide to Type III child care centers technical assistance on effective implementation of Early Learning and Development Standards, Teaching Strategies GOLD student learning documentation and assessments, and CLASS assessment results, including but not limited to
    • Conduct needs assessments with teachers and Directors
    • Coach on how to conduct live, ongoing observations of children
    • Guide on setting schedule in order to meet TS GOLD checkpoints effectively
    • Provide technical support on using the TS GOLD app
    • Provide modeling, guidance, and development of age-appropriate lesson plans
    • Guide room arrangement and assessment of materials
    • Review CLASS assessment reports with providers
    • Set up goals and action plans on improving CLASS scores
    • Lead reflection on and share feedback about teaching practices
  • Provide CLASS observations in Toddler and/or Pre-K classrooms
  • Assist Type II child care or family child care home providers in the development of Improvement Plans which are linked to observations and data
  • Prepare in a timely manner all required reports on visits conducted
  • Prepare  information for other project evaluation and reports
  • Help identify needed training/professional development for teachers
  • Help organize in-service training programs for staff
  • Link child care teachers and/or Directors with needed resources for additional development
  • Provide emotional support for teachers and Directors regarding the amount of new knowledge being learned and implemented
  • Build collaborative relationships with Community Network members and partners, Mental Health Consultants, Child Care Quality Specialists, and others from Louisiana’s Department of Education
  • Perform other job-related duties
  • In collaboration with direct supervisors, implement a personal professional development plan
 
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate credential and 3-5 years relevant experience in an early childhood setting.
  • Knowledge of CLASS, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and Louisiana’s Birth to Kindergarten Early Learning and Development Standards
  • Toddler and Pre-K CLASS observation reliability preferred
  • Knowledge about principle of adult learning
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Obtain appropriate criminal background clearance and do not appear on the State Central Registry
  • Must have safe, reliable transportation and be ready to travel across the PICC catchment area
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit, use hands, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can sometimes be exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
