SEVERAL WEEKEND SHIFTS AVAILABLE !
Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life?  Compassionate and devoted persons have the opportunity to begin careers as Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) with Volunteers of America, an established and recognized faith based, social service organization in Baton Rouge. Our DSP’s work with individuals with disabilities to enhance their wellbeing and their independent living skills and are the heart of our success! We currently have openings for ALL weekend shifts, including overnight, in both our residential facilities and in the homes of individuals we support.
 
Pay Range: 7.25/hr—8.00/hr.
 

Using a team approach, the DSP will work to enhance the quality of life, health, welfare and safety of persons served by the following job description  highlights:
    Ensuring individuals are treated with respect and assisted to exercise their rights
    Supporting VOA's mission, vision and core values while empowering each person to direct their own life choices
    Assisting with the development and implementation of the individual's service plan which includes their personal goals, desires and challenges
    Assisting individuals with fiscal management to safeguard their funds. This may include completing ledgers, balancing their accounts and encouraging good spending choices
    Providing assistance in the area of daily living such as: eating, bathing, dressing, ambulation, toileting, food prep and storage, laundry, various household chores, shopping, job support,         and transportation

Great communication skills are a must for the position! The DSP will be expected to:
    Demonstrate empathy and professionalism towards people with disabilities
    Maintain open communication and cooperative work effort with supervisors and coworkers to ensure quality and continuity of support to persons served
    Write and submit legible progress notes
    Document critical incidents
    Read and write in English
    Understand and carry out directions promptly and accurately

    Have experience either personally or professionally serving those with disabilities
    A high school diploma or GED from an accredited school
    Are at least 21 years of age
    Have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and current vehicle insurance
    Are reliable, dependable and committed to perfect attendance
    Possess patience and ability to remain calm and confident when handling the occasional difficult moment or situation
    Commitment to complete trainings and certifications required
